“These things I have spoken unto you,
that in me ye might have peace.
In the world ye shall have tribulation:
but be of good cheer;
I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33
WHAT IT MEANS TO OVERCOME THE WORLD
To overcome the world means:
- To release oneself from the prison of darkness that is ignorance, just as the chick matures and cracks the egg shell to emerge thereform. You do this by seeking the Truth.
- To know the Truth by experiencing it, understanding it and living It. “You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.” John 8:32
- To know oneself as spirit (divine and life), not as flesh which is nothing but corpse.
- To know that life is everlasting: death is not the end of life, and birth is not the beginning of life.
- To overcome the senses by no longer being unnecessarily influenced by them.
- To know the falsehood that is negative inclinations of the Devil and his wickedness. He is the “Father of lies.” “He has no power over me.” And there is no Truth in falsehood.
- To know that God is the Creator of the universe.
- God is with all living things as a friend and companion.
- To be free from the law of karma, which law is overcome by selfless service.
- To engage oneself in selflessness for the benefits of mankind by:
a. Doing things without expecting reward.
b. Doing things without complaining.
c. Doing things without expecting thanks.
d. Always working for the good of others.
- To become a living sacrifice: to perform all duties as service offering to God. Man is a priest.
- To renounce doership: to give God the glory for all of one’s achievements, because all actions are performed by the forces of nature, by the Holy Spirit. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
- To always be in the presence of God: to know that God is everywhere; and to think of God always. God is All-in-All (Universal Consciousness).
- To attain equanimity (spiritual equilibrium): calmness in success and failure, even-minded in praise or condemnation, level-headed in riches or poverty.
- To overcome the notion of duality.
- To be able to come and go at will, not more bound by the material form. To be no longer bound by time and space. You can be at any place at will; you move at will. Man is a master of the universe.
- To attain prophethood: to know the past, the present and the future; man is a prophet.
- To know that things are made for your pleasure through God. Man is a king of the universe.

You do this
- by using your power of independent thinking,
